Game file corrupted/crashing - help!!

Hey Folks

As of this morning I've found I am unable to launch the game - every time I try I get the first black start-up screen (with small Airport City icon in top left corner), then get an error message "Unfortunately, Airport City has stopped" and program crashes before I even get to the GI splash screen/Airport City loading screen.    

I suspect my game/app file has somehow become corrupted and have already sent a request to GI support, but god knows how long they'll take to respond so just thought I'd check whether anyone else has had similar issues and/or any tips/advice they might be able to offer. Any and all help or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Well, you did the right thing. This will take 3-4 days I think. 

I assume you've already turned off yr tablet/phone completely and rebooted? 
No backups made ?? 
This happened to me during xmas and it took them some 4 days and quite a few emails to fix it. They will tell you to delete the game and install a new one . You than need to play it for a few rounds/levels until you get a new friend code and give this to G!. A day later you'll get a restore code (similar to the weekend code for 3 greenies and 2000 coins) and this will restore the game to yr old level. 
It's a pain and ever since I started making backups with 'helium' just in case it would crash again.

Yes, I already turned off and restarted the tablet several times but no luck. I had also tried some time ago to create a backup using Helium but my device was not properly supported by Helium so was unable to do so.

I have read elsewhere that when you restore your game via a GI code you lose your previous gift list (which is a pain but I guess I can live with), however do you know whether or not your inventory of items and collections is retained upon restore or does your game come back with zero of everything?

Hey abc,

The only thing that could change with restoring your game is your gift list, but your inventory, coins, xp, greenies, collections etc will be retained when your game is restored.

It happened to me 4 weeks ago, in my case they have asked me to wait or whether I have reinstalled the game. I reinstalled the game and I applied for the code. Afterwards they asked me for some more time for investigation. After 6 days I got the restoration code. Good luck and a lot of patiance.

Good luck with GI Support Team. My experience with them was a nightmare. For reasons unknown I was receiving half of their e-mails: they kept telling me "do you need any further help? We are about to close your ticket as solved" and I was like "I am still waiting for your f****** restore code to begin with". The first code I managed to get my hands on did not work, but the second attempt was successful. It took more than three weeks though, but I bet you'll be luckier than me.
On top of that, my old gift list was way better than the new one.

Unfortunately Helios doesn't seem to work with me either, so I am afraid I'll have to get through GI's painful support again, sooner or later. Yuck.

Took 48-hours to get the email saying I had been put in support queue and then about the same time again to receive the first actual response to my request. Unfortunately that response was the standard canned "your game has been blocked due to time traveling . . . blah, blah" message and contained a code to unblock the game. Don't think they even read my original request properly at all and have gone back to explain that my game is not blocked but completely crashed/corrupted.  Still waiting on next response from them.

Has the Back to School event already finished? I had finished all collections but not yet clicked on Complete so I could get more stars and collect more Unis and other items for next time. Bummer! I really needed that extra 20 pop. too.

. . . also worried now about the fate of silver tokens I had started accumulating from launches

My tablet crashed last year during the Thanksgiving event. Same situation. When I restored, the event was over but the bonus was in my warehouse. Hope it works the same for you.

Well it took quite a bit longer than 3-4 days but I'm finally back in business after basically 3 weeks of back & forth with GI customer support (. . . perhaps I'm lowest support priority as I don't spend real money on this game). While some of the delay was my own fault due to regular life being too busy to respond quickly at times, there certainly seemed to be a lot of work involved to resolve what really should have been a pretty straight-forward issue.

I was asked to download LogCat apps and send crash logs through, and had trouble getting support to understand that the LogCat apps were basically useless on my non-rooted current version of Android. Was then asked to send through a bunch of screenshots of the actual crash occurring on start-up, etc, and then finally after several more days wait got the instructions re deleting old game, reinstalling and playing to level 3, and then the reinstall code.

That came through a few days ago and have managed to get my city back up and running. Different gift list of course (now with Fuel20 . . . yay!), my silver tokens and collected items still intact, and I did get the Einstein Tower from the Back to School

So all in all I'm pleased with the outcome even though it took awhile . . .

Oh no !!! Looks like I spoke too soon and jinxed myself . . . . no sooner do I get my game up and running again and then my tablet charger fries itself Looks like I'm out of action again for another week or so while I wait on delivery of a new charger unit. Bummer!!

I'd pilfer one from a friend.  Who needs it more anyway?  Poor abc...hurry back.

I have 3 chargers..

If you have a charger where the plug can be disconnected from the usb wire, than you can just plug it in the computer and charge it slowly that way.

Thanks for the suggestions guys - unfortunately it's a fairly non-typical tablet make and uses a 12V charger not a 5V which means I can't charge via USB, so will just need to sit tight and wait I think . . . and next-time go for the mainstream tablet options!!! . . . see you again in a bit folks . . .

Hey Folks

Just letting you know I'm back . . . . or at least I think I am!!!

Got back online around 10 days back and all seemed fine for a couple of days but then the Halloween update arrived and my game went all weird with a couple of instances of opening with no saved progress and then couldn't launch the game at all as the app constantly froze on the "loading" page.

Today I noticed there was a new update file installed for the app and this seems to have fixed the problem as I was able to successfully launch the game again subsequently (. . . and in saying this I will no doubt be jinxing myself with a further crash the very next time I try to launch ).

So here's to third-time-lucky, but will give it a few more days to make sure things stay stable before I can be fully confident . . . (keep fingers crossed  )

This is nerve wracking mate Well st least welcome back, for now...
Do you think Santa will bring you a new tablet ?

Hey Guys

Still having some intermittent freezing problems at start-up but doesn't seem to be anything terminal. That combined with things being crazy busy at work at the moment (Nov/Dec busiest time of year) making it a bit hard to play as regularly as I used to so apologies for slowness in returning gifts, etc, at present . . . I'm working my way back into more regular play
