Depends on the level you're at, whether you completed all the tasks from Egypt and Cyprus, and whether you collected all the items dropping from those destinations (and not available from another destination/gifted by neighbors). Do you have all the stars yet?
At first I kept it for a while but when you really don't need it anymore I sold it after a few weeks/when I needed another plain.
When you have to fly to the destinations again you can always buy it again, only then you have to sell another plain or upgrade the control tower so you can build a new hangar.
